Buffalo River Gran Fondo

Buffalo River Gran Fondo is for you if you enjoy fun times, plenty of miles, good food, and great beer. The RIDE is a fully supported choice of 68.5 or 32.3 miles of mixed surface routes starting and finishing at Camp Trapezium located in the quaint town of Amherst, VA.

This isn't a traditional race in the sense of start to finish. For those who do enjoy a little spirited competition among friends, there will be 3 Strava segments placed throughout the route. Each Segment will be an independent competition with overall, gender, and age group awards. There will be signs on the route indicating the start and finish of each segment (2 climbs and a sprint). You will need to be on Strava (it's free) and in addition, will need to join the rides' Strava club to be eligible for awards.

The weekend will get started with check-in on Friday afternoon at Camp Trapezium with live music, dinner available for purchase, and lawn games. Camping will be encouraged for all riders and families at no additional cost. Pre-ride briefing along with light breakfast and coffee will start off Saturday morning at 8:00 am with the ride beginning at 9:30 am. Along the ride course, three supported rest stops will be provided. A sag vehicle will be available for any rider if needed. After the ride, all riders will be provided with a meal and a beer ticket along with commemorative swag. There will be additional food and drinks available to purchase for your loved ones.

The Wormhole Mountain Bike Race

Gear up for Central Virginia's premier mountain bike race – the Wormhole 100k! This 68-miles of challenging terrain will push you to your limits and reward you with breathtaking views, technical descents, and lung-busting climbs. This is not your average mountain bike race; it's sure to test your skills, endurance and sheer determination.

The course will traverse some of the most awe-inspiring trails the region has to offer including Cornelius Creek, Pine Ridge, Little Cove Mountain, Chesnutt Mountain, the Glenwood Horse Trail and the mysterious Wormhole.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or a daring enthusiast, this race is your chance to prove yourself on the challenging trails of the East Coast.

For those who are eager to embrace the thrill of the Wormhole but not quite ready to tackle the full 100k adventure, we've got the perfect solution – checkout the Wormhole 50k option!

We aim for all participants to complete the Wormhole; however, out of consideration for our volunteers and race staff, there will be cutoff times of 12 hours for the 100K and 10 hours for the 50K option.

Included with each racer's entry is some sweet swag, a post-race meal ticket and complimentary weekend of camping.

WHAT IS THE BU STRAVA SEGMENT CHALLENGE SERIES?

This is a 6-week series designed to get folks on their bikes pedaling some of the area's very best routes. Ride with a group or solo, with the goal being to complete as many of the 3 weekly segments while racking up points for our segment series championship! Does this sound like your kind of fun? HOW DOES THE SERIES WORK?

  • Cyclists must join the Strava Club- BU Strava Segment Challenge Series

  • Each Friday three Strava segments will be posted on the Bikes Unlimited Facebook page and our Instagram feed. One Segment will consist of road or gravel and the other will be an Off-Road segment.

  • Beginning the following Monday Riders will have 7 days to complete the segment. (Monday to Sunday)

  • Riders will upload their rides with the completed segment to Strava- The ride must be set to public.

  • Only rides completed during the designated week for the segments will count toward the leaderboard for that segment.

  • This is a continuous 6-week event but each week is a “fresh start” and people can join in whenever they would like.

  • DRAFTING is allowed- so gather your friends and chase those segments

WHAT’S the same and what’s new for 2024?

BUSSCS CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED

Like previous year, riders will receive points according to their finishing position per their gender in each weekly segment accumulating points throughout the entire 6-week series. Riders will be awarded more points based on the number of riders who compete in that week's segment. For example, if a weekly segment has 22 riders participating, the fastest rider will receive 23 points for their efforts while the slowest rider will receive 1 point. There will be 3 segments each week (road, gravel, & mountain). Riders will receive points for their two highest-scoring segments with their lowest being dropped for the week. Riders will not be penalized for missing a segment but will only score points for the segments that the rider completes. We will be crowning a male and female series winner.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • BUSSCS MALE & FEMALE CHAMPIONS will be awarded a Bikes Unlimited gift certificate valued at $100 buck-a-roos!

  • The Rider (both male & female) who accumulates the most points per week will be awarded a small prize.

THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER WHEN PARTICIPATING IN THIS SERIES

  • The health and safety of cyclists will always be the highest priority for Bikes Unlimited.
