Buffalo River Gran Fondo
Buffalo River Gran Fondo is for you if you enjoy fun times, plenty of miles, good food and great beer. The RIDE is a fully supported 70 mile mixed surface route starting and finishing at Camp Trapezium located in the quaint town of Amherst, VA. The route will consist of approximately 70% gravel and 30% paved roads. Along the course there will be 3 staffed rest stations, course markings/signage and a sag vehicle for mechanical assistance. Remember this is a ride not a race- so we encourage everyone to have a good time at the rest stops and cheer other riders on during the ride.
The weekend will get started with check-in on Saturday afternoon at Camp Trapezium with live music, dinner available for purchase, and lawn games. Camping will be encouaraged for all riders and families at no additional cost. Pre-ride briefing along with light breakfast and coffee will start off Sunday morning at 7:30 and the ride will begin at 8:30. Along the ride course, three supported rest stops will be provided. A sag vehicle will be available for any rdier if needed. After the ride, all riders will be provided with a meal and a beer along with comemorative swag. Ther will be additional food and drinks available to purchase for your loved ones.

Road Conditions- the ride consist of approximately 70% packed gravel roads, 25% country rural roads, and 5% smooth city roads. For most riders this isn't a route for your lightest race ready road machine-for most riders we would suggest 28c or wider tires.
The course is open to traffic, and all Virginia traffic laws must be followed by the riders.
This isn't a race but for those who enjoy a little spirited competition among friends, there will be 3 King/Queen of Mountains segments placed through out the route. There will be signs on the route indicating the start and finish of each segment (2 climbs and a sprint). You will need to be on Strava (it's free) and need to join the rides Strava club (https://www.strava.com/clubs/458601) Make sure to join the club to eligible for awards.

We encourage everyone to join in on the fun that's sure to happen at Camp Trapezium Saturday evening. Camping will be provided free of charge but you will need to RSVP when registering. We understand that camping isn't for all. There are several lodging and dinig options available in the town of Amherst, VA (http://visitamherstcounty.org/). There will be parking available at Camp Trapezium. Please only park in designated areas.
