Riverwalk (AKA Percival’s Island Trail) is one of the most popular sections of the James River Heritage Trail. People of all ages and abilities are able to enjoy this 3.5 mile paved trail. This lovely, level path begins downtown on Jefferson Street, just past the eastern end of the Blackwater Creek Bikeway and the Point of Honor Trail, and moves eastward along the waterfront (passing Amazement Square and Riverfront Park), and crosses onto Percival’s Island before continuing into Amherst County.
Blackwater Creek Bikeway
The Blackwater Creek Bikeway extends for approximately three miles along an historic, abandoned railroad bed and was the first section of the James River Heritage Trail system to be completed in the late 1970’s. From the Ed Page entrance on Old Langhorne Road, through the Hollins Mill Tunnel to the connection with RiverWalk, this paved trail is suitable for walkers, bikers, and strollers of all ages.
Downtown Historic Lynchburg has plenty to offer for cyclists. Make your afternoon ride complete by checking out some of the local eateries located only a stones throw from Bikes Unlimited:
